AT Telecom and Worldex: Cell Phone Import Rip-OffAugust 20, 2006
Don’t shop at AT Telecom (atgsm.com) or Worldex (worldexonline.com).
Between these two shops, I’ve wasted two weeks and had hundreds of dollars of credit tied up. They both did the same thing to me:
- I search around, looking for the phone I want (Sharp 703SH or 703SHf), and can only seem to find a few shops, based in Hong Kong, which claim to have it in stock.
- I order the phone.
- Some days later (two for AT Telecom, six for Worldex), I get an e-mail that the phone is actually out of stock, and that they’ll have to reverse the charge on my credit card.
I guess it’s not really a scam, since I do get my money back, but it’s an awful way to do business. Customers want to trust the companies they do business with. If your way of managing inventory is to wait until someone tries to order something, charge them, and then realize you can’t find one to send them, that person will never trust you again. You’ve wasted their time, tied up their funds, and made them start up their shopping process all over again.
I’m not going to use any of these shady importers anymore. I’m going to wait for one of these phones to appear on eBay. I think it’s pretty bad news when I trust eBay sellers way more than I trust an established business.
It feels like this cell-phone shopping is never going to end. I just want to have a nice Japanese tri-band phone in my hand. ;_;
