IGN Is Not To Be TrustedOctober 29, 2006
IGN has this to say about Ar tonelico, the most prominent title of my recent gaming life. Much of the article was questionable, such as the romanization of the characters’ names. But this was inexplicable:
Not to be overlooked are the ways you can customize the characters' looks. By giving them new outfits, they'll look different in battles, exploration, and cutscenes. Some examples we were given were the requisite school girl, Donald, and Mickey. > >
Wot? The outfits only affect the characters’ appearance in the status screen and in battle, not in exploration or cutscenes. But “Donald and Mickey” really caused me to go WTF. Do they really mean Donald Duck and Mickey Mouse? Are they implying that Ar tonelico is a Disney-licensed game? Of course not; but if not, what in the world could they mean? Orica has a joke costume that has her dressed up as Don-chan, her teddy bear from childhood; that’s the closest thing to Disney characters I can think of in AT’s costume system.
The point is that apart from the screenshots they provide, IGN’s coverage confuses as much as it informs. They’d be better off not trying to tell us anything about the game if they can’t get it right.
